We decorated 298 bags!

About our project: Lincroft Elementary School first participated in the "Earth Day Groceries Project" in 2000 (see archived reports). For their 2004 Earth Day celebration, Lincroft Elementary School held a school-wide program that included the “Earth Day Groceries Project” plus three interactive presentations based on New Jersey 4-H Science Discovery Kits. Each child also received a 24-page activity booklet summarizing the presentations (kindergarten students received a coloring page) and the opportunity to sign a "Kids for Saving Earth Promise" poster. Distribution of the grocery bags began in April and was again coordinated by the art teacher, Mrs. Georgiou. First place and honorable mention bags were chosen at each grade level K-5. Each winner received a ribbon and an award letter. The winning bags were displayed during the Earth Day Program on Wednesday, April 21st. After the Program, the winning bags were returned to the artists and the remaining bags were taken to the Lincroft Acme to distribute to their customers on Earth Day Thursday, April, 22nd. The Lincroft PTA, Mrs. Laura Agin, President, provided the funding for the 2004 Earth Day Program. The Lincroft Acme, Mr. Karl Niedt, manager, donated the grocery bags. New Jersey 4-H Science Discovery Kits were provided free of charge by the Monmouth County 4-H, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, Mrs. Virginia Krzyzanowski, 4-H Program Assoc. Special thanks to Dr. Michaele McKenna, Principal Lincroft Elementary School, Mrs. Enny, 2nd grade teacher and faculty advisor, and Mrs. Linda Lintz, PTA Ed. Enrichment Chair. Thanks also to many parent and youth volunteers, including Girl Scout Troup #24 and Tiger Den #3. Without their support, this program would not have been possible.

We decorated 127 bags!

About our project: This is our 5th year of EDGB participation. 100% involvement. ALL bags are hung up in Kings for ALL to see. After Earth Day, Kings holds a contest with my 6 science classes. Each class has a winner and a runner-up EDGB. Kings rewards the winners with T-shirts imprinted with their bag design and the runners-up with an Earth Day gift. Great school/community relations and FUN.

We decorated 115 bags!

About our project: Several students obtained bags from Shoprite in Jersey City a few weeks before Earth Day. Unfortunately, time slipped away (Easter Vacation, school activities, etc.) and we decorated our bags at the last minute. We were unable to return the bags to the store for disbursement on Earth Day, but we displayed them in our hallway and classrooms for everyone to see. Next year we will definitely start decorating earlier.
