The manager of Super 1 Foods in West Monroe, Louisiana donated bags for us. Our group decorated about 20 bags. We decorated 200 bags!

About our project: I collected about 200 paper bags from the neighboring store in Jennings, LA and had mainly my 8th graders to decorate the bags. The students really enjoyed this activity. This is also the last year for the school because the school will be torn down to combine with the high school in newly built school. So not only did the students take pride in their work but also knowing that they have created souvenirs as the last graduating class from Northside Jr. High. We even had an article put in the local newspaper.

We decorated 550 bags!

About our project: Mrs. Jackie Barre', a 2nd Grade teacher at St. Agnes School in Jefferson, Louisiana, organized the school-wide participation in the Earth Day Grocery Bag Project. She collected over 500 brown paper grocery bags from a near by Winn Dixie Grocery Store. "This was a very easy project to participate in. It was fun for the students and it was also educational. I think it gave the students a sense of empowerment, knowing that it was their responsibility to send out a clear and vivid environmental message to their community." Winn Dixie, a near by local grocery store, will be using the bags on Earth Day in order to spread the children's messages of how important and easy it is to recycle and be "Earth Friendly". "I just walked in to the Winn Dixie one morning on my way to school and asked the manager if he would be willing to lend us the bags, allow us to decorate them and then use them on Earth Day. He was very receptive and it was really a win-win situation all the way around. Winn Dixie, St. Agnes, and our community will all benefit from this activity. We will get wide spread results, yet it was very little effort on our part."

We decorated 300 bags!

About our project: T.H. Watkins Elementary is proud to be the first school in Calcasieu Parish to participate in the project. On Friday April 15th we had the manager from the Alberson's grocery store that donated the bags to come to the school for a presentation of an award for the most unique bag from PK-K, 1-3, and 4-5 graders. The students were very happy to participate in the activities and enjoyed taking part in community awareness of what Earth Day means. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in such a great project!
