We decorated 800 bags!

About our project: This is the second year my students have participated in the project. Once again, the students really enjoyed working on the bags and our community loved them! I expanded the project to include several classes from our elementary schools and our 5th/6th grade building. This year, we were able to deliver 800 decorated bags to Kroger. In addition to decorating bags, once again, we painted the windows at Kroger and our school using Earth Day slogans and related artwork. My students also designed a flyer which was put into every grocery bag. The flyer gave some important facts about conservation of resources and local addresses and phone numbers of recycling centers.

Look at our pictures!

We decorated 50 bags!

About our project: This was a nice project for fifth grade students. I believe they enjoyed knowing that their artwork would be going out into the community and making a difference in Earth Day awareness!

We decorated 400 bags!

About our project: This was our 2nd year participating in the Earth Day Grocery Bags project, and we doubled our efforts! The 2nd grade students couldn't stop decorating the bags -- they had so much fun! The teachers kept the bags in the classroom, and when the students had free time they would grab a bag or two to decorate. Toward the end, the two classes were racing to see who could complete 200 bags first! When the bags were delivered to the store, the head cashier was so excited to get them again. She said the customers loved them!

We decorated 60 bags!

About our project: Our science center is currently closed for renovation, so we had an Earth Day exhibit set up at a local shopping mall. We had some displays, and hands-on activities (including the grocery bags). Unfortunately, it was a beautiful day outside, so mall traffic was slow. Even so, about 60 kids and parents stopped at our table to decorate a bag. Many decided to keep them and use them while shopping in the mall, rather than get different bags from each store.

We decorated 247 bags!

About our project: The grocery bag project is a shcool wide effort that we started in 1999. In my classroom we spend the month of April learnig about the environment, resources, conservation, etc. We use the grocery bag project in an effort to connect with the community to help spread the word on environmental issues/awareness.
