We decorated 386 bags!

About our project: Collinwood is a small town. We only two full-size grocery stores in town, so both of them participated in this project. Each store donated half of the needed bags. Last year, I did a classroom "Earth Day" lesson in each class and then had them to decorate the paper grocery bags, but due to time constraints, some children were rushed. So, this year, I asked the new art teacher to help. I taught the "Earth Day" lesson during my regularly scheduled time in the classrooms and then Mrs. Joy had all the children decorate the bags during her Art classes throughout the week prior to Earth Day, 2001. The children enjoyed talking about Earth Day and decorating the bags and writing slogans and tips on the bags. The bags were taken to the stores on Friday afternoon, April 20 to be distributed on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22, 2001. Everyone involved with this project was pleased with the outcome and look forward to participating again next year.

We decorated 222 bags!

About our project: With the help of the 1st.-5th. graders, the Ecology Club decorated 222 bags that were handed out last Sunday, on Earth Day, at the Kroger store located on Middlebrook Pike and Cedar Bluff Road, not to far from the school. On Friday, we decorated a bulletin board with some of the bags for the parents to see during parent conferences. We took lots of pictures and send a press release to our school "Messenger". It was fun! Thanks for letting us be part of such a wonderful project.
