We decorated 281 bags!

About our project: This was our first year to participate in theGrocery Bag Project. Our neighborhood grocery store was very willing to participate with us. The students had a great time. Our student body consists of lower income students. It was great for our students to feel like they could "help the earth." The neighborhood grocery store is also in our lower income neighborhood. Often the lower income areas do not recycle as much as the middle income neighborhood (information from our city recycling coordinator). So it is our hope to spread the word that helping the earth is everyone's responsibility and opportunity. Thanks for sharing this great opportunity! We decorated 800 bags!

About our project: We are a K-4 school. Food City and Ingles in Lenoir City participated in the activity by providing us with the bags. After the 800 students were finished decorating the bags, the bags were returned to the grocery stores. This provided the students as well as the community with much needed reuseable and recycleable awareness.

We decorated 56 bags!

About our project: Because this week was testing week for the schools, the students did not have any homework. Therefore we turned our homework room into a room just for Earth Day. We decorated bags and bookmarks. We also completed coloring pages and wordsearches dealing with Earth Day.

We decorated 125 bags!

About our project: This is the first year for us to participate in the grocery bag project. We discussed that the purpose for the writing we put on the bags was both to inform and to persuade. Students viewed the website and got ideas for decorating the bags and added facts about trees and the environment. Teachers thought it was a great way to integrate art, writing, science and community service. We were able to finish 125 bags that were returned to the local EW James IGA to be used by weekend shoppers.
