We decorated 950 bags!

About our project: We celebrated Earth Day by collecting paper bags from our local grocery stores and decorating them with slogans and our school's name. Everyone in the school participated. In addition the fifth grade students presented programs for each of the lower grade classrooms. Our theme was water. The programs included sinking and floating, aquatic animals, and your body and it's water content. The teachers prepared a program for the fifth grade that entailed testing the streams and lakes in the area for water quality. We discovered that our watershed was relatively safe and pure. We also held a school wide recycling contest to recycle 2.004 items. We bought Earth Day suckers for all students and a banner to decorate the lobby. All of the bulletin boards in the hallways were decorated with an Earth Day theme. Teachers, in order to show that they are life-long learners, made a powerpoint slide presentation with grade level themes. We showed the powerpoint to the students on Earth Day. It was a wonderful combination of activities that was complimented with the grocery bag program!
