We decorated 200 bags!

About our project: This project was part of an environmental education program. The youth were very excited to decorate the bags and really did a great job. We also made posters for the inside of the club relating to the project and did a community clean up as well. It was interesting to see youth who usually do not participate, and they were decorating bags; sometimes more than one. Great project!

We decorated 200 bags!

About our project: We do a monthly service project at out school. The grocery store we gave the bags to is a discount store that doesn't normally have paper grocery bags for the customers. They loved the idea of getting the bags out to the neighborhood with such important messages on them. We all brought them over, and the students were very proud.

We decorated 250 bags!

About our project: Our school is a K-12 school in a town of about 650 people. Each year we have a Health Fair or a Science Fair. This year we had a Health Fair. My class decided to study environmental awareness. We just finished an ocean unit and the children became very concerned about the ocean animals, especially the coral reefs. So we thought that environmental awareness was a great topic because it can effect humans and animals health in many different ways. We did many different activities and projects dealing with environmental awareness. We got all the elementary classes involved in the Paper Bag Project. We wrote the teachers a letter about the project and gave them examples of what the children could put on the bags. We used some information from the website and other websites such as Kids Domain. The children were very proud of their bags and they couldn't wait to get them to the store. We took the bags to the store and as we walked we picked up garbage. The children were amazed with the amount of garbage that they had collected, especially plastics and plastic bags. We took pictures of my class with their bags and we send them to our local newspapers with a write up. We also put the bags at the Health Fair so we could have aduls decorate bags and our booth promoted "Healthy Planet, Healthy Kids". This was a great success and the children were very excited to share this project with the community. Some good books to read to the children are: The Lorax, Just a Dream, and the stories I got off the KidDomian website. The stories give the children motivation and I created some great language arts activities to go along with the stories. Finally, I am very thankful to the paper council for donating the bags.

We decorated 306 bags!

About our project: This is our third year and we seem to be growing each year. It really ties in well with my Social Studies program. I gave the whole school themes each week to use to deciorate the bags. I use such ideas as: Thank you earth for...., Endangered animals, Recycling, etc.
