We decorated 500 bags!

About our project: This is the third year that the children of West Parish School in Gloucester, MA have participated in the Earth Day Bag Project. We look forward to this art lesson every year and it is always a great success. We used shopping bags provided by Stop & Shop in Gloucester and Crayola Construction Paper Crayons. We look forward to sharing some of our bags with other children around the world.

We decorated 300 bags!

About our project: We decorated 300 bags SHED/Kid’s Club, a non-profit Kindergarten & school-age program in Andover, Ma, had a great time taking part in the Earth Day Celebration this April. A Group of children from Kid’s Club have been working, learning & growing all year in the “A little Good Green Fun” gardening club. A Kid’s Club parent & earth lover, Chuck Sherzi, led this group. The Children were able to learn about gardening and the earth & began to have an understanding of the need to take care of the earth. The gardening group, Maria Ravenstein (a Kid’s Club Teacher) and other children from the program decided to take part in a recycling awareness activity. The children borrowed paper bags from Market Basket, the local grocery store. They took the bags back to the program, decorated them with colorful images and messages about the importance of recycling and saving the earth and then delivered them back to Market Basket for customers to take their groceries home. The children loved participating in this event and were able to celebrate with an Earth Day Party!!! We would like to extend our Thanks to Mr. Mark Ahlness and the Manager of Market Basket Mr. Matthew Matson for his cooperation. If you like more information about our program, please contact the director of Our program Mrs. Linda Shottes Bouchard Email lsbouchard@aol.com and for any consultation or Garden Design please contact Mr. Chuck Sherzi Jr. Email thegardener@plesuergyrdening.com. We decorated 150 bags!

About our project: Students in every grade had a great time decorating the bags. This year we partnered with a small, local store. The bags we used were plain brown -- a lot easier than the advertisement laden bags of larger chains. The week before Earth Day, a local newspaper featured an article about our project. The kindergartners combined the grocery bag project with a "Clean-Up Day." Kindergartners picked up trash all around the school grounds. They also washed the playground equipment with water and elbow grease. Taking care of the environment can sure be fun!

We decorated 500 bags!

About our project: *See newspaper article in the New Bedford Standard Times on Friday, April 19, 2002, entitled "It's in the Bag" by Laura McLean. This is Center School's second year participating in this very worthwhile and educational project. The children learn lots, and it's a great way to integrate community service into the curriculum.
