We decorated 428 bags!

About our project: The students at Arbor Heights Elementary School once again decorated beautiful grocery bags for distribution at our local Safeway on Earth Day. This was a big year for us, as we began the project on the Internet TEN years ago! The third graders in Room 12 did a wonderful job decorating bags, speaking to other classrooms at the school, editing all the school's bags, and delivering them to Safeway!! Special thanks to Safeway for loaning out the bags and receiving them back so warmly! At school, we had our annual contest for best classroom bags - the winners receiving $30 "Gift Cards" to Safeway (thanks to our PTSA for funding this!). Winning classrooms were Mrs. Shavey's 1st graders, Mrs. Salter's third graders, and Mr. Swan's fifth graders. The judges had a REAL hard time choosing winners, because ALL the bags were so beautiful. Room 12 finished off the week by watching "The Lorax" and having an Earth Party (special appearance by the Earth!).

We decorated 657 bags!

About our project: Each of our classrooms spent time decorating the grocery sacks with Earth Day info. This is our 5th year participating in the great project. The Teachers and Students look forward to this activity each year. One of the many neat things about this project is that it reminds us that we have a relationship to our Earth.

We decorated 461 bags!

About our project: Students and teachers really enjoy this project. They appreciate having plenty of lead time. I get the bags into the teachers' hands about a month ahead of time. Our web-based photo gallery of bags from last year helped students get ideas for this year.
