We decorated 37 bags!

About our project: On one afternoon, 7 students decorated 37 grocery bags with Earth friendly tips. The youth enjoyed making them and we had a great time discussing the tips about the environment.

We decorated 500 bags!

About our project: Working individually or cooperatively with cross-age buddies, students at Discovery participated in the thirteenth annual Earth Day Grocery Bag Project by decorating about 500 grocery bags with artwork and messages to express their ideas about caring for our planet. On April 22, our local Albertson's store on 128th St. SW uses these bags for customers' groceries. Students and staff enjoy this project, and we hope to do it again next year. Photos of 48 of this year's bags may be viewed online at http://schools.mukilteo.wednet.edu/di/library/edgb2006.htm

We decorated 280 bags!

About our project: Tonasket AmeriCorps members contacted three local businesses that use paper bags for their merchandise. We asked the managers to let us "borrow" bags for students to decorate. AmeriCorps members assisted students during class and in the after school tutoring centers to decorate the bags with pictures of the earth and environmental messages. It’s amazing what the students can do! On Friday, April 21, the day before Earth Day, AmeriCorps volunteers and students returned the decorated bags to the grocery store - with many thanks to the manager! The businesses distributed the bags to customers on Earth Day. 280 students participated this year!
