We decorated 500 bags!

About our project: This was a part of our Earth Day Celebration. We chose a day that poured, so all our activities had to be inside. Each classroom teacher took a set of bags for their class. They decorated the bags and returned them to one teacher. We then returned them to the grocery store.

We decorated 188 bags!

About our project: Our earthdaybag project was part of a week of activities surrounding Earth Day. We had a can drive, a recycle assembly, and environment lessons. For 11 years, second grade has assembled a huge "rainforest" and had a bake sale to raise money to preserve the forest through the Earth's Birthday Project. This year we made it a school wide event, and everyone was given an "earth bank" in which they could deposit thier donated coins. The grocery bag project was entirely optional for the students. Each classroom teacher had the option of whether and how to participate. We had a great response. Each class picked a bag to go into a "Earthbag Gallery". As the bags were hung in the gallery, classes became motivated to outdo one another! One bag from the gallery was chosen (by teachers) to be sent to you. The children did a wonderful job. The Hy-Vee grocery store in the neighborhood was extremely cooperative. We were delighted to see our Earth Day messages go out to the community!

We decorated 60 bags!

About our project: The Fourth Graders at Seven Holy Founders participated in the Earth Day Groceries Project! The students were very excited to be participating in a project to promote environmental awareness! Their bags turned out bright and colorful! I told them they were making advertisements to give the shoppers a little reminder that it is important to be helping Mother Earth!
