We decorated 550 bags!

About our project: I had my science club members to to the local grocery stores, and pick up as many bags as they would donate. This made them the responsible party members. Several of the stores refused to donate because the bags are expensive. One of the local Albertsons, and the new Fry's Market place donated the most bags. I teamed up my seventh graders with four other classes to decorated the Earth Day bags. Then two of my science club members returned the bags to the stores so they could give them out to their customers on Earth Day. I also had another project set up that day to make it a fun exciting event for the students at our school, Countryside Elementary. I now have another teacher in our school that wants to help next year to make it even more successful. She will be teaching Kindergarten next year. Stay persistent with the local stores. I am hoping that we proved reliable this year so that they will donate even more bags next year. Natalie A. Moore

We decorated 150 bags!

About our project: Morristown Elementary students busied themselves by decorating brown paper shopping bags for Basha’s food store in Wickenburg. The theme displayed on the bags was Earth Day. These bags were distributed by Basha’s on Friday, April 22 in celebration of Earth Day 2005. Morristown staff members wore Earth Day t-shirts. Classrooms did various activities including dirt making (yummy), a walking field trip to clean up the community, and general cleaning of the playground area. In my classroom, we celebrate Earth Day all week, and we call it Earth Week.
