We decorated 500 bags!

About our project: For the second year, the students in Mrs. Mahan's art classes enjoyed making their Earth Bags, while learning about the environment. Some bags were displayed on our neighborood store's bulletin boards, while the rest were distributed to shoppers!

We decorated 500 bags!

About our project: This was our first time participating in this project. So, we decided to limit the students to K-2. Not only did we have great fun in doing the project, the response was so positive that next year the entire school will be participating! The upper elementary students felt left out! The judging was divided into three categories; most colorful (kindergarten), most creative (first grade) and best environmental message (second grade). A big thank you to Albertson's for the bags!Happy Earth Day!

We decorated 40 bags!

About our project: We found a link to your site through the Girl Scout Frontier Council site. We went to Wild Oats and told them about your program. They were happy to give us bags. The bags had alot of words on them, so we painted one side of the bags tan, and allowed them to dry. During our weekly girl scout meeting, we talked about Earth Day and all we could do to help the Earth. Then we got to it. The girls were so excited to decorate the bags. I took the decorated bags back to Wild Oats, and they were very excited too to see these bags they were going to distribute on Earth Day. On Saturday, our other leader was at the strip mall which is where Wild Oats is located, and saw people carrying out groceries in our bags. How awesome. We hope to participate again next year!

We decorated 500 bags!

About our project: Wow! What a response to our project! Our school limited the project to the primary grades because this was our first time participating. The kindergarten theme was the most colorful; first grade's theme was most creative; second grade's theme was best environmental message. when the older students saw the bags, they asked why they were not getting to participate? So next year, this is going to be a school wide art project in celebration of Earth day! Albertson's is currently using the decorated bags for a 'dinner's in the bag' project for another charitable group. For $9.99 the bags are filled with the makings for a complete family dinner as a fundraiser! This could be the beginning of a beautiful partnership, which all started from the Earth day grocery bag project too!

We decorated 1000 bags!

About our project: We had a great time doing this activity - the kids and the staff have been excited to see the bags being redistributed among the community. Albertson's was great and have requested that we join them for future 'partner' endeavors. My class is following this activity up with a webquest on Earth Day and some Arbor Day lessons. Thanks for putting this together and keeping it on going. ~Stacey Bayley
