We decorated 325 bags!

About our project: I am reporting the participation of approx. 325 students (Junior Kindergarten - Grade 3) in Earth Day 2000 Grocery Project. I myself am an Environmental Technician with the City of Kanata (near Ottawa, Ontario, Canada). I scheduled presentations with 16 classes (325 students) at Castlefrank Elementary School (in Kanata) to talk about recycling and introduce them to the Earth Day Grocery Project. A local grocery store, Loblaws (Centrum Plaza) were glad to supply the students with brown paper grocery bags to decorate with Earth Day messages and pictures. On Earth Day, Loblaws posted all the decorated bags on their windows on the front of the store for viewing, then towards the end of the day, the bags were distributed to customers at the cash. The project was a great success and the children were eager to participate. Congratulations to you Mark on developing this project to what it has become today!!! Your web site was very helpful to me as I searched for an innovative Earth Day project for students to participate in. Kindest regards, Barb Gray

About our project: Once again the students of St.Alexander participated in the Earth Day Grocery Bags project. This year we did bookmarks that were placed in the shoppers grocery bags on Earth Day. Each bookmark had a earth day message. Students at St Alexander School are very concerned about the earth that they live in.
